Following pre-season training and discussions with the coaches, players and captains, the committee/club, based upon these discussions, made a formal approach and request to the league last week to withdraw our second team from the league for this season.
It was felt after a review of our playing numbers that the club could not fulfil and meet the 2nd team fixtures and commitments in what is a very strong league. The General Committee decided after a great deal of consultation with the coaches and captains to take this decision and to make this request to the league now rather than to start the season.
If our 2nd team ultimately conceded 3 games then they would have been removed from the league. In addition to this there would have been potential repercussions on our 3rd team. The league confirmed that our request would not have been considered if the season had started. This could have meant that our 3rd team were also withdrawn from the league. In the circumstances, the committee, coaches and captains felt that this was our only viable option.
We believe that this is just a temporary measure and it is the intention of the club to reinstate the 2nd team into the league as soon as possible. This is obviously subject to recruitment and the development of our current squad including our Colts. In the interim period, the club will be endeavouring to create a vets team to play perhaps on Friday nights on a less frequent basis, whilst we restructure.
There will be no change/s to either the 1st team or the 3rd team. Both will continue in their current leagues.
We need all the players and members to support the club both on and off the field during this transitional period and whilst we look to recruit and restructure. There will be further updates and posts regarding the vets team, in the meantime please continue to help and support the club throughout the season which starts on the 2nd Sept.
The fixture list will be updated on our website and at the club as soon as possible to reflect this.
